  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

In the 150 years since he published his groundbreaking On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, and the 200 years since the date of his birth celebrated this week, Charles Darwin has failed to convince the majority of Americans of the validity of his theories; an August 2006 survey by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life and the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, found that 63% of Americans say they believe that humans and other animals have either always existed in their present form or have evolved over time under the guidance of a supreme being while only 26% say that life evolved solely through processes such as natural selection. A similar Pew Research Center poll, released in August 2005, found that 64% of Americans support teaching creationism alongside evolution in the classroom.

While it might need to be a different question, you could pretty easily run a similar exercise in every other country in the world and find that 2/3 of their populations are also bloody stupid.

The report cited in the OP link is vastly different than the headlined conclusion.

The report says that 63% reject Darwinism as the ONLY factor in human evolution. A great many support the concept of theistic evolution, or evolution that had divine guidance.

what's with the term Darwinism? Darwin discovered Evolution which is a scientific staple. Darwinism implies some kind of following of one man's teachings. way too close to a religion for my liking. He was the first to propose it. his theory was confirmed by the scientific community and has been refined over the ages. Darwinism is not necessary.

How many of the 63% who want to abandon natural selection in favor of divinely guided evolution would say that the goal is the same, to make the creature fit the environment. In other words, where's the difference?

I agree that Darwinism isn't the only factor in human evolution.

Keep up the defensive statements guys, this should be entertaining.

Agreed. And I don't even have any particular stance on this... but I still think this could turn amusing.

Darwin discovered Natural Selection's impact on Evolution, but that alone is not the total of Evolution.

    you just got owned.

Because Darwin's Theory of Human Evolution is still a theory, that's why.

I didn't see this thread when you posted this not long before me this morning RoM. I posted something in regards to Darwins birthday a bit ago as well, though not relating to a survey or statistics. Apparently searching thread titles for Darwin does not return results for Darwinism. Sorry- not trying to double post or steal any thunder. :)

    Look....idiot......

Mammal is just a word.......a scientific classification.....(you DO understand that don't you.....it's basic biology)

    Who thought up the term?

Did he or she just want to classify things into nice neat little boxes.....so therefore feeling a little more secure about understanding all that was going on around him....or her......but probably him.

    Same as Darwin really......

He came up with an idea...that humans were descended from apes.......and some of the world bought that idea..........especially those who were keen to disprove the existence of a superior creative power.......because....that freaked the shit out of them........

    *now go facepalm yourself.....apeman.

now to tear you a new asshole....

yes, i do understand that. if every word held no meaning to you a table would just be a word and not something you eat on wouldn't it? Mammal is a word used to classify a group of animals with the following characteristics:

    1. They are endothermic vertebrates.

    2. They have hair, which varies greatly among species.

    3. Most have sudoriferus (sweat) glands.

    4. They have mammary (milk-secreting) glands.
    5. They have sebaceous (fat-secreting) glands.
    6. They have heterodont dentition (different types of teeth).

All of which apply to humans.

someone smarter than you by leaps and bounds apparently

it has less to do with security and more to do with awareness and comprehension of nature. Religion is the one obsessed with a false sense of security.

humans did not descend from apes. to descend means to degrade. homosapiens are upgrades to lesser apes. our species maintains the characteristics that proved successful for our survival. most lesser apes went extinct.

    most
